My 2027 Journey — From Today's HR Role To The Modern HR Function
Six steps: identify your current role and rate its skills, assess the added skills the five modern HR domains demand, see your best-fit future role, choose your target, pick how you like to learn — and leave with a five-month journey to be ready in January 2027.

Step 1 — Your current domain role and its skills. Modern HR work spans fourteen domains in four families — strategy and business partnership, the organization center of excellence, the people center of excellence, and HR operation and services. Choose the domain closest to what you do today — no job-level split, just the domain. Then rate yourself on the skills that domain uses, on the 4-level scale. Honest ratings build a plan that works; inflated ones fail you, not the model.

Skills You Also Use (Optional)
Many HR professionals carry skills beyond their formal role. Add and rate any others you genuinely use — they strengthen your fit to more future roles.
Choose your domain role and rate all its skills to continue.
Step 2 — The five modern HR domains, the roles under each, and the added skills they demand. Every future role below grows out of today's HR — some stay close to what you know, some evolve, some transform, and some are entirely new. Browse the roles, then rate yourself on the sixteen added skills. Zero means “not yet” — honest zeros are useful; they become your plan.

Now Rate Yourself — The Sixteen Added Skills
Required levels show how strongly each domain leans on a skill (the highest requirement across its roles). Your column is on the right: 0 = not yet, 1 basic → 4 expert.

Your Fit To The Future Roles — Top Eight
Computed from the skills of your current role plus your ratings on the sixteen added skills — matched against what each future role requires. The dashed marker at 60% is where a move is realistic by January 2027 with a committed plan.

The Added Skills You Still Need
Best fit is a fact, not an instruction — the next step is your choice.
Step 4 — Choose your target future role. Take the model's best fit, or choose another from aspiration — both are legitimate. Choosing a harder role is a real strategy: the plan simply has more ground to cover, and your best-fit role stays open as the fallback. Your fit to every role is shown honestly on each card.

Step 5 — Tell the plan how you actually learn. Pick up to three preferences in order — your plan biases toward them while keeping the 70:20:10 discipline: real work carries most of the growth, people around you carry the next share, and formal programs support the rest. Then set the weekly hours you will honestly protect.

Three Rules That Make This Plan Survive Contact With Reality
Manager time-contract in August. Manager support is the strongest learning-transfer lever in the research — get your hours agreed before anything else.
One evidence artifact per month. Progress is verified, not felt: a scenario pack, a working agent, a readout deck — named in advance.
Re-plan openly when a month collapses. A month slipping in September is recoverable; discovered in December it is not.
